Ashampoo FireWall is a simple and easy to use application designed to provide a stronger and more flexible security level than Windows Firewall. The program only works on Windows 2000 or XP. Still, if you are using an older machine, this might be the simple solution to stay protected from online threats.
When running the application for the first time, you have to go through all the steps of the configuration assistant. It does not matter if you are a beginner or not, as the program can be set to run in two different modes: easy or expert. You can also change this setting from the 'Configuration' window later on. In the easy mode, the program is simplified and some settings are not available, while the expert mode is designed for experienced users who are familiar with network security settings.

The user interface is very friendly and attractive. The main menu allows you to access all the features of the application, from the defined rules to the statistics and logs. As any firewall should, Ashampoo’s product lets you check the applications attempting to establish a connection. The notification window allows you either to block or allow the connection, as well as create a custom access rule. Furthermore, you can edit the existing rules for every program that needs an Internet connection. If expert mode is selected, the editing process allows you to specify individual ports in your rules, as well as choose to monitor the local and LAN connections. Statistics are also displayed, so you can always be aware of the number of allowed or blocked connections. Furthermore, the application integrates a log file that records every established or blocked connection.

Additional tools are available in the program, such as process and autostart managers, or the built-in Internet cleaner and IP spam blocker.
